Glasgow Doors Open Day 2014 has been launched today – and you can find a complete list of all 170 buildings and events involved in the September festival on their website now.
The free annual heritage festival is coordinated and organised by Glasgow Building Preservation Trust, a charity that focuses on saving built heritage by establishing new uses for and restoring much loved old buildings. Glasgow is the one of the largest Doors Open Day festivals in Scotland and this years marks its 25th celebration, with the city‘s way of celebrating its buildings, its streets, its parks and its people taking place between September 15-21.
Last year more than 69,000 recorded visits were made and this year’s highlights include …
- Glasgow Crematorium, opening for Doors Open Day for the very first time!
- Be amazed at Arlington Baths which recently received a Category A-listed status.
- Draw Glasgow on an Arty Archi sketching tour, now in the East & Merchant City!
- Discover Glasgow’s Animal Magic on Ronnie Scott’s tour for children.
- Take part in an archaeological dig at Provan Hall.
- Satisfy your curiosity at Glasgow Crematorium, the first ever crematorium built in Scotland, open for the first time.
- Jump on board Creative Cargo, a floating travelling exhibition on the Forth and Clyde Canal.
- Explore the brand new Glasgow School of Art Reid Building.
- Experience Govanhill with fresh ears on the Govanhill People’s History Listening Trai.l
- Get hints and tips at the photography workshop at the newly restored Kelvingrove Bandstand & Amphitheatre.
- Listen (or play) with Lids Open Day, as Glasgow Piano City presents a series of pianos coming to life in Doors Open Day buildings.
- Visit the winner of four design awards – Notre Dame Primary School.
