The first-ever Glasgow Doors Open Day App has been launched so visitors can easily navigate their way between buildings over this weekend. There are also bike hire offers throughout the city, competitions to win £250 for Glasgow’s Architectural Salvage and an exhibition celebrating 25 years of Doors Open Day.

In partnership with Future Cities, Glasgow Doors Open Day have created an app for iphone users. This app will help people to get around the city and uncover some amazing buildings – from the gorgeous Fairfield Shipyard Offices to the magnificent Kings Theatre. The app has the key information visitors need such as opening and closing times, amenities at all sites, parking availability and information on disabled access.

The free annual heritage festival is coordinated and organised by the Glasgow Buildings Preservation Trust, a charity that focuses on saving built heritage by establishing new uses for and restoring much loved old buildings.

And Ruth Morris, GBPT’s co-ordinator for Glasgow Doors Open Day, said:  “In the past few weeks the city has really come alive showing its passion for Scotland. Doors Open Day is a great way to celebrate our roots that have driven us forward. This weekend will see 90 buildings open up their doors and will really emphasise the great Glasgow ancestors.

“Our partnership with Future Cities has enabled us to trial an app for our visitors, hopefully making it easier to get around during the weekend. There’s also lots of other things for visitors to do and we are very proud of the opportunities that we present through doors open day such as our popular photography competition. We want to make it as easy as possible and encourage as many people as possible, to explore Glasgow this weekend!”

See more about Glasgow Doors Open Day here and a brochure is also available here – and you can download the app here
